BEING the shortest of all the other 15 finalists did not matter for 19-year-old Natasha Charmaine Rickson when she was crowned Miss Borneo Beautiful 2010.
Standing only 155cm tall, she was the shortest finalists ever for the pageant. First runner-up Genevie Wan Anyie towered over her at 180cm. The finale was held at Riverside Majestic Hotel in Kuching on Saturday night.

“I will save the cash prize and pursue my studies at UCSI University,” she told reporters after the pageant.
Natasha is a familiar name in local pageants in Sarawak. She was also a finalist in the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) 2010 Kumang Gawai pageant.
Meanwhile, Genevie, 23, a Kayan from Miri, won herself RM3,000 cash prize and a 50% discount on UCSI University’s Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism fee.
Second runner-up went to 17-year-old Bidayuh-Kenyah from Miri, Debra Robert. She won RM2,000 cash prize and a 30% discount on UCSI University’s Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism fee.

Other finalists did not leave empty-handed as they were also awarded RM300 cash prize for advancing into the finals.

Miss Friendship International 1995. A Pamela Poon's Diary.
Miss Turkey went berserk and woke the entire hotel with a hysterical scream that emitted a 1000 decibels. It turned out that she had two big swollen and red goldfish-eye on the day of the pageant's grand final. She was desperately looking for eye gel and the rest of the contestants chipped in with their secret remedies-tea bags, ice packs, cucumbers but all did not help.
I bunked in with Miss Switzerland. Miss Turkey and Miss Germany were our immediate neighbours and upon realizing that, we yanked and yanked and boogied in our rooms till dawn. Some hotel guests complained about us apparently they were not amused by our rowdy behaviour.
During the pageant final night, it was a total chaos. Backstage, the contestants were trying on endless evening gowns, swimwear and national costumes all at once. Black, white, red or blue?. Miss Russia burnt her forehead with her hair-thongs. After few minutes of soothing cream and heavy layers of make up on, she looked great.
The German audiences were very sporting, spontaneous and very supportive to every candidate. They went screaming "go Singapore, go!" and also to everyone else. The winner that night was Miss France while Miss Hungary went on to win 1st runner up and me in the 3rd spot.
Miss Singapore was also in the same place of third at last year's event. It should be noted that I am the only Asian in the top 5 round. The best part was celebrating birthday together with Miss Israel and several other contestants.

Teen quest promoter says no consent yet from sexy, saucy Sophie
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010 11:38:00
PETALING JAYA: Sexed-up, tattooed and body-pierced 14-year-old Sophie Watson from England has laid bare the ruse of a local teen quest promoter headlining her in an attempted sexualisation of teenage girls here.
In a Facebook chat last night, Sophie - whose rise to "stardom" revolves around a girl her age having sex, drinking alcohol and a body full of tattoos, piercings and permanent make-up - denied any connection with a local events firm promoting the online Miss Teen Malaysia beauty pageant.
She said she had no idea that the firm, TeensInAsia.com, was using her as a "role model" to lure girls below age 18 to enter the contest.
"I have no idea .... no connection at all (with anybody in Malaysia)," she said in response to yesterday's Being Frank column that exposed TeensInAsia.com of using her riotous image luring young Malaysian girls to join the teen quest.
In an immediate response, the local partner of TeensInAsia.com, Alan Chow, told The Malay Mail this morning they had been planning to contact Sophie to get her consent.
Asked if he viewed his events firm's scheme was tantamount to sexualisation of innocent girls, Chow said: "I have pulled out of the partnership (with Australian Khaled Aban) .... I made a mistake and am very sorry."
On whether Khaled would go ahead with the pageant, Chow said: "What do you think after your newspaper carried the article yesterday?"
Pressed further, Chow said Khaled could not be contacted since yesterday and that potential sponsors - whom he declined to name - had all pulled out after the story broke.
The Malay Mail reported yesterday that the unregistered events firm, headed by Australian Khaled, was planning the pageant using Sophie, who holds 22 teen beauty pageant titles, as the showpiece lure.
Young girls are told to streak ahead of their friends and live their dreams in the world of acting and modelling.
Khaled and his pals have taken to Facebook to create a buzz about the quest and his website originating from the UK shows photos of 30 Asian teenagers, including supposedly Malaysians, with 12 of the girls pictured said to be under the age of 16.
The report launched a debate about sexualisation of young girls with readers urging the authorities to take action against the events firm.
Sophie, when asked if she viewed the move as an attempt to sexualise teenage girls here, said: "I'm not doing interviews for newspapers anymore."
She said she would alert her manager to get the matter sorted out.
Several readers noted that Sophie was a tragic consequence of bad parenting and agreed with The Malay Mail that such a pageant would erode good, respectable values and diminish well meant religious belief.
Criticisms were also heaped on Sophie and her 39-year-old mother who gave the little girl her blessings to sleep with four boys in six months in their house.
The mother was also ridiculed for allowing Sophie to have piercings in her ear, nose and belly button, flowers inscribed on her tummy, her name written on her wrist and inked-on eyeliner, lip liner, a fake beauty mark and her eyebrows tattooed with makeup.

Miss Earth 2010 Best In Swimsuits Winners On Thanh Nien Front Cover.
If India has Femina magazine, Vietnam has its own in Thanh Nien. I have been an ardent follower of this magazine since they did a very good coverage on Miss Universe pageant way back in 2008. This magazine also has been publishing many beauty pageant news and photos local and international since long time ago.
There is a street in HCM near the Equatorial Hotel where there are two small shops selling old books and magazines and Thanh Nien will be the first publication I scour thoroughly.
