This contest was held on December 12, 1996. There were 12 finalists with $90,000 worth of cash and prizes on offer. Among the prizes were Sijori Batam memberships, Je Taime Jewellery, Triumph products, Emporio Armani products and return tickets to Hong Kong to compete in Miss Chinese International 1997.

This contest aims at promoting Chinese culture and tradition. Three month of gruelling competition comprising of four heats and two semifinals were held to select just 12 finalists. A private prejudging session for the finalists gave the score of 70 percent while another 30 percent was accorded for the final night.

The judges on the final night were Harlem Yu, a famous Taiwan singer Lim Yew Nee, kee Cheng Siew Miss Chinese International 1996 winner among others. About 600 audience attended the event. The contestants were competed in three main segments, swimwear, evening gown and interview.

The three main winners were:
1-Hannah Toh (winner).
2-Poh Hong Leng (2nd).
3-Ewa Yeo (3rd).
