This contest was held at the Equatorial hotel in Penang. There were 12 finalists. The winner was Shanti Sinaya and she was crowned by the wife of MIC President, Datin Indrani Samy Vellu. Kavita Kumari was 1st runner up while Yamuna, a nurse was 2nd runners up.
The contestants were judges on their poise and wits and of course the way they tied the sarees. The main winner won RM500 in cash, air tickets to Madras, a pewter trophy, sash and crown and other gifts and of course, a very expensive silk saree.
