FORD MODELS SUPERMODEL OF THE WORLD MALAYSIA 2011 JOINS HANDS WITH 2011 MALAYSIAN GRAND PRIX.

The Malaysian edition of the prestigious Ford Models Supermodel of the World will be joining hands with the Sepang International Circuit for its upcoming 2011 Search in the run-up to the 2011 Malaysian F1 Petronas Grand Prix in April.

Organised by STYLO International, the winner will represent the country at its world finals in New York City which also marks the 30th anniversary of the renowned event which brought its winners not only lucrative contracts with Ford Models but a shot at instant global fame. Each year, the search attracts hundreds of thousands of applicants. For 2011, over 70 countries will fly their winners to New York in August to vie for the title of the ultimate Supermodel of the World.

Present at the media conference today for the Malaysian search were Dato’ Nancy Yeoh, Organising Chairman of the Ford Models Supermodel of the World Malaysia 2011 and Dato’ Razlan Razali, Chief Executive Officer of the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

Dato’ Razlan Razali said “We are delighted to be collaborating with Ford Models Malaysia for this very interesting exercise. The Formula 1 race and the Ford Supermodel search are undoubtedly two globally-significant events whose diversity in character and target audiences makes this partnership in the run-up to the Malaysian Grand Prix season both unique and exciting”.

He further added “The SIC has set itself a target of delivering the best-ever F1 event in its history; targeting a full house race crowd for the April 10 race. In achieving the target, we will be working closely with key lifestyle partners in painting the city with F1 colours during the race week. The full programme which includes the Ford Supermodel search will be announced in January”.

Organising Chairman Dato’ Nancy Yeoh said the search will take place in major cities throughout the country and the collaboration with the Sepang International Circuit provides it with greater platform and depth. “We are looking for that ONE girl. Not only is it our hope that she will be the country’s biggest supermodel discovery but it is also about the discovery and international promotion of our country when we embark on this journey. The successful hosting of the Formula 1 by the Sepang International Circuit for the past 13 years makes this collaboration highly significant especially since we are so limited by time”. She further added that the supermodel search will join the SIC on its national road shows.

Established in 1946, Ford Models was taken over in September this year by Russian billionaire Vladimir Potanin. In late November, STYLO International was awarded the rights to organise the world-renowned search following the appointment of Calvin Cheng, President of STYLO Academy China and Singapore as the official licensee of the Ford Models Supermodel of the World for China, Singapore and Malaysia. Cheng, a Nominated Member of Parliament of Singapore brought the Ford competition to China in 2007.

Yeoh explained that STYLO will be setting up a Supermodel Advisory Board made up of relevant and influential Malaysian personalities to aid the search and that the international standards of the Ford Supermodel brand are met. “In the words of Yves Saint Laurent, ‘A good model will advance fashion by 10 years’. Beauty is a subjective matter but the makings of a supermodel are anything but. Not only is she expected to meet the height requirements in order to compete respectably on an international level but to also possess the ‘attitude’ and multi-faceted adaptability required of a supermodel”.

“I believe the multi-cultural diversity of our country will certainly be able to produce one such significant person as we have done before. Malaysian supermodel Ling Tan is a case in point. She made headlines on the international fashion scene way before anyone expected the Asian supermodel will be the flavour of the future”, she said.

She further added that STYLO Academy will groom the winner selected in April 2011 where a customised course on Personality Enhancement and Finishing School Curriculum will be taught to prepare her for the August finals in New York. “While it is a natural aspiration to want to win in any competition especially one as significant as the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Ford Models Supermodel of the World search, it is just as important to come across as a well-presented contender especially when one is representing her country”.

The Malaysian search will hold its casting from early next year and finals during the Malaysian Formula 1 season in April. It is open to all Malaysian women from age 18 and above. Participants younger than 18 (minimum 14 years of age) require written parental approvals. Interested parties please call the Ford Supermodel Hotline at 014 729 7541 or email fordsupermodels@stylo-international.com.

In wooing fans for the 2011 race, SIC is currently offering a Special Early Bird Discount package that provides a 50 percent discount on ticket purchases for all tickets until January 31 except for seats at Emerald, Sapphire and Diamond which are already sold out. “We are currently working with our partners on many exclusive deals to give more value add to our ticket holders. The public can expect more next year with all the events being lined up. Hence, we are extending the early bird promotion for one more month to give a chance to everyone to enjoy these benefits”, said Dato’ Razlan.
