There were jitters, screams of joy and tears at the recent Miss Universe Malaysia auditions.
A hundred enthusiastic women came for the auditions recently, which involved questions and interviews.
These women were picked out from over a thousand candidates who went for tryouts in cities across the nation, recently.
The atmosphere was a fun one. There were jitters but contestants still chatted among each other.
Some even broke into songs and even nursery rhymes!
There were jubilant screams for those who got into the finals and tears for some who didn’t get through…and there was some who got frustrated about…hair…

Christina Roberts, 20, who travelled all the way from Malacca, said the judges found her hair too curly and felt that it cost her a place in the finals.
The judges, however, said that it wasn’t just about the curls and that Roberts didn’t make it because she “failed to make an impact on us.”
There was another contestant im the corner, who just got of a plane from East Malaysia and was memorising what she wanted to say at the interview session.
But there was a lot of enthusiasm and optimism as well, especially from 20-year-old mass communications student Juanita David Ramayah.

“I’ve always wanted to do this,” she says, admitting she was nervous during the auditions, which required the girls to answer difficult questions by the judges.
“I just told them why I was there…which was to be a role model for young girls,” she added.
The judges were actor Hans Isaac, radio personality Phat Fabes, beauty queen Andrea Fonseka and industry expert Julia Dolmatova.
Another confident contestant, journalist Cheryl Felix went as far to say she wanted to go all the way.

“I want to be the first Malaysian to be Miss Universe,” said the 23-year-old.
Model Layka Sethuram, 25, said she was asked tough questions at the auditions.
“The judges asked me what I could contribute. I answered that I could share my experience and teach people,” she said.
Also, Miss Universe Malaysia 2010 Nadine Ann Thomas made an appearance to speak to the hopefuls.
The finalists will be announced within the next few weeks.
These finalists will then live together for a month before the grand finale in November.
A reality show will be filmed at the bungalow.
