Miss People's Choice: Melinda Lee
PROVING that she was as talented as she was pretty, Nasyeiha Saila Sany Seth was a sight to behold as she strutted, sang and danced her way to clinch the Ratu Kebaya 2010 title at the Bukit Jambul Complex in Penang.
Beating 14 other finalists, Nasyeiha Saila’s confidence and disarming smile had the crowd cheering for more.
Modelling Honey Beauty Line’s resplendent golden-brown kebaya with a stunning bejewelled headdress, she charmed the judges with her eloquence in the question and answer session and her rendition of singer Waheeda’s hit — Wassini, during the talent competition.
The 21-year-old executive from Kepala Batas hoped to pursue modelling professionally after winning the crown.
“This is my first win in a pageant and it was so unexpected because of the stiff competition,” she said.
Admitting that she rarely donned the kebaya, Nasyeiha Saila — who also won the Miss Photogenic subsidiary title — said the contest rekindled her excitement for the traditional garment.
“For sure I’ll be wearing it more often from now on,” she enthused.
The first runner-up was Murni Ismail while the second runner-up was Roseyana Haryanti Mohd Harunizam.
Top three: Ratu Kebaya 2010 Nasyeiha Saila Sany Seth flanked by first runner-up Murni Ismail (left) and second runner-up Roseyana Haryanti Mohd Harunizam.
The top three winners took home RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively as well as spa, jewellery and clothing vouchers.
The subsidiary title winners were Sharmeen Looi Mee Leng, who was awarded Miss Perfect Smile; Melinda Lee Chen Ling (Miss People’s Choice) and Nor Kasmawani Mohd Fadzil who was named Miss Talent.
Held last Sunday, the beauty contest was jointly organised by the complex management and Batu Uban assemblyman S. Raveentharan.
Bukit Jambul Complex joint management body chairman Chan Kean Hin said RM2,000 was donated to the Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged in conjunction with the event.
In his speech, Raveentharan said the contest was aimed at helping to generate business for the more than 40 kebaya boutiques at the complex while promoting the garment among all races.
