SIBU:  The organiser of the  Miss Tourism Pageant managed to raise almost RM1 million from the Grand Finale or charity night of the contest.
Second Finance Minister Dato’ Sri Wong Soon Koh, who was the guest of honour, revealed this at the function held at RH Hotel on Friday evening. 
The Grand Finale was a spectacular show that ended on a high note. The audience was treated to a night of stunning performances by the 30 finalists who competed in  the talent show, evening gown competition and traditional costume competition.
All finalists  put up their best performances to the delight of the audience.
At the grand finale, Miss India Priyanka Shah helped her country to retain the title with her win. The 2005 series of the pageant was also won by India. Second place went to Miss Venezuela Andrea Vidal while Miss Australia Lauryn Maree Eagle came third.
In the question-and-answer session, Priyanka told Master of Ceremony  Raymond Goh  that she  was optimistic  world tourism would  flourish  with the help of better technology and easier communication.
At a press conference after the crowning of the winners, an elated   Priyanka said that she was happy to have won the pageant. She  promised  to help to promote Sarawak to her country.
Miss Venezuela, meanwhile, said she was surprised to emerge second as she never thought she would win anything.
The top ten finalists were Priyanka Shah (India), Lauryn Maree Eagle (Australia), Lim Liy Yi Yi (HongKong-China),  Tiffany Marie Yanke (America), Claudia Milena Torres (Colombia), Larisse Nahari Isaguirre Diaz (Mexico), Andrea Vidal (Venezuela), Yea Bin Jeong (South Korea), Claudia Milena (Colombia), Tiffany Marie Yanke (America) and Penelope Ling Kieng Wee (Malaysia).
Miss Malaysia Penelope Ling  was adjudged as the winner of Miss Friendship title while the other subsidiary title  winners were Miss Colombia Claudia Milena (Best Evening Gown), Miss Brazil, Aline Avancin.(Best Traditional Costume) and Miss South Korea, Yeo Bin Jeong (Miss Talent)
Present to witness the pageant and later present the various prizes were co-organising chairmen Councillor Chieng Boon Tuong and Vincent Goh, Sibu Municipal Council Chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew.
The pageant, according to Alaric Soh, the franchise founder and owner of Alaric’s Production Company was not so much about the prizes but for the ladies to help promote tourism between their countries and Sarawak.
