THE Miss Sarawak Model of the World 2010 contest is heating up with four more aspiring models being selected for the finals after an audition in Kuching recently.
They are Shermaine Ung, 16, Josephine Bonnavong, 18, and Kho Siew Ching, 19, from Kuching, and Liew Sing Yii, 21 from Serian.
The four will join Christina Wong, 22, from Sibu and Suzie Teo, 19, from Bintulu for the grand final at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club in Miri from July 25 to 30.
The final auditions will be held in Miri on June 27 at Melilea International Centre.
Organised by The Room Production, a Miri-based event management company, the competition is aimed at providing a platform for young girls to pursue their interests in fashion and modelling.
It is also aimed at promoting tourism, integrating business opportunities, finding models for international goodwill events and boosting the local fashion and creative design industry.
Event organising chairperson Melissa Wong Li Tiin, who was the first runner-up in the Miss Malaysia Model of the World 2009, said that 12 finalists would be selected from throughout the state to compete in the grand final.
The winner will represent Sarawak in the Miss Malaysia Model of the World 2010 pageant in Ipoh.
“If she wins the national title, she will go on to represent our country in the Miss Model of the World contest expected to be held in China later this year,” she said, adding that the event was among the most prestigious professional pageants for women in the world.
More than RM30,000 worth of gifts and prizes are up for grabs.
The winner will get RM3,000 plus gifts and the first and second runners-up will receive RM2,000 and RM1,000 plus gifts respectively.
All the finalists will get separate gifts and prizes like skin care products, cosmetics, a haircare set, lingerie, hampers and T-shirts.
In addition, there are subsidiary awards such as Miss Model Stylo, Miss Model Cover Look, Miss Model Most Beautiful Eye, Miss Model Best Personality, Miss Model Best Catwalk, Miss Model Popularity and Miss Model Body Beautiful.
