LIKE her character Mei, a Muslim convert in the drama Tudung Express, this is the second year Chermaine Poo fasted during Ramadan.
While the actress-TV host-emcee still drank water during the fasting month last year, this year she went all out.
“I did it out of respect as most of the film crew members were Muslim. Some people were surprised to see me fast but as a Christian, I have done it before so it was nothing new.
“It was fun to buka puasa with the crew,” she said.
There were many firsts for her in taking part in Tudung Express, for example it was her first lead role in drama.
Previously, she only had cameos or guest-starred in dramas.
“This is the biggest local production that I have taken part in so far. I was overwhelmed by the scale of the production,” she said.
“At first, I thought it will be hot to wear a headscarf but it was actually cooling if you choose the right material,” she said.
The Miss Malaysia/Universe 2005 runner-up’s first foray in acting wasDukun in 2007.
Since the drama was aired, she has received positive feedback from the viewers.
“I was surprised when people came up to me and talked about the drama. There were more people asking for my autograph and wanting to take photos with me.
“Some of them told me that they like seeing me in a baju kurung,” she said.
Poo was dressed in a gorgeous kebaya for the interview.
She added that she was open to different types of dramas or movies as long as there was a good script.
“Good scripts are hard to come by,” she said.
The interview was held at Kechara Oasis in Jaya One where she often dines at.
“I like to dine here as I can do charity at the same time,” she said.
Her busy schedule is packed with work commitments but when she does find time, she tries to cook and brush up on her languages.
