KUALA LUMPUR: A beauty contest with a difference which emphasises the 1Malaysia concept will be held in Putrajaya on May 23 by MBQ World Sdn Bhd.
The Miss Beauty Queen Malaysia 2010 pageant which will not feature a swim suit competition or girls parading in sexy, revealing clothes, will even see "tudung" clad participants taking part.

All the states of Malaysia would be represented at the finals as the winner from each state would be contesting, said president of MBQ World, Datuk Molly Malakias Yoshioka.

The finalists were online applicants.
"We are searching for goodwill ambassadors who will help unfortunate children, promote awareness about the need for clean water, work towards protecting wild animals and the environment as well as encourage non-violence," said Yoshioka.

Among the finalists are Suraya Yaacob (Miss Selangor), a clerk who wears tudung; Guganeswary Vellayan (Miss Negri Sembilan) a student, personal assistant Aimi Zanura Mohd Zaffullah (Miss Kelantan), beautician Yeo Kah Wi (Miss Johor) and Nithya Raja Gopal (Miss Pahang), a student.

During the finals, contestants are required to dress in a traditional attire which represents the state they are from.

"The girls will also wear two types of evening gowns. Whatever clothes we provide them for the contest is theirs."

The winner of the contest will represent Malaysia at the Miss Beauty Queen World Pageant 2010 pageant in Venezuela, South America. She will also walk away with RM10,000, clothes and a tiara.

The first- and second-runners up will get RM7,000 and RM5,000 respectively, as well as a set of clothes and a tiara each.

"The winners will also be offered job opportunities."

Unlike other pageants where only the top three winners participate in activities, all the finalists in this beauty contest will join the winners in charity and goodwill activities.

The finals will be held at the Grand Ballroom of Seri Endon, Puspanitapuri, in Precinct 10, Putrajaya from 7pm to 10pm.
