MALAYSIAN women can do anything” — with these words, Nadine Ann Thomas, clinched the coveted Miss Universe/Malaysia 2010 title last Saturday.
The 23-year-old talent coordinator beat 17 other beautiful women at the finals held at the Royale Chulan Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
Nadine, one of the most consistent participants, was suprised when her name was announced from the five finalists.
“I really didn’t expect to win the title. I’m humbled and honoured by it,” said the lanky lass.
Andrea Fonseka, the national director said she was happy with the results.
Law graduate Mourhrna Anetha Reddy, 25, was named first runner-up while Vera Hui, 25, was crowned the second runner up.
Hui said she was in a state of shock and yet to decide on her next course of action.
For Mourhrna, she will continue doing charity projects after her win.
“The title does not change anything, I will do my charity work. This is, after all, a personal journey for me,” she said.
At the competition, the ladies wowed the crowd in the swimsuit round and later drew thunderous applause in the evening gown round.
When the judges were deliberating on the top five finalists, guests were entertained by popular jazz singer Noryn Aziz.
Celebrity judge Hans Isaac said the decision was a tough one for him.
“All of them were well groomed. I was looking for a girl who had a sparkle and can carry the title. Nadine was the right choice,” he said.
Nadine also bagged the Miss Body Beautiful Marigold award.
Other subsidiary titles included Chow Xiang Yee for Advertlets Best Blogger Award, Gail Marianne James for Moet and Chandon Be Fabulous Award, Sarah Yap for both A Cut Above Hair Award and ntv7 Miss Feel Good Award and Vera Hui for Sony Miss Photogenic Award.
Nadine will be representing Malaysia at the glitzy Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas this August.
