Capri, who is among 15 finalists in Johor, said learning other languages would give her an advantage in the competition.
“I believe that when you are entering the tourism queen contest, you need to know other languages as you will be representing your country at international events.
“I learnt Japanese because I like their culture and their cool fashion sense,” she said.
Capri also said this was the first time that she had entered a beauty contest after getting encouragement from her family.
Another finalists, Joan Wong, 19, said that this is the fifth time that she had entered a beauty pageant.
“I have not won any contest before but I am hopeful of victory this time.
“I entered this beauty pageant as the experience will help me to achieve my dream of becoming a model,” she said.
J WOW event company event manager James Wang said the top three finalists would represent the state at the final of the Miss Malaysia Tourism Queen International in Penang in July.
“The winner of the Miss Malaysia Tourism Queen International will represent the country in the international final to be held in China,” he said.
