Contrary to widely publicized, the Miss Universe does not start in the year 1952 the triumph of Armi Kuusela, decades before, the idea of an international beauty pageant with a massive participation of representatives of various countries, had materialized.

Although many of us know, in 1926 and was organized international competition beauty (Miss France 1928 photo, editing undisputed favorite, shown in a pose Gozon, direct ancestor that embodied Tatiana Capote decades later in the Miss World). And although it is officially used in 1929 for the first time, the name of Miss Universe to designate the winner of the competition held in Galveston, Texas, and by 1928 was known as Miss Universe (as it appears in the press release in the picture, The Washington Post, Sunday, July 8, 1928), who was credited with major awards, as well as the necessary publicity to become a celebrity of the time, as happens today, but no internet, no forums, or Osmel or Mexicans, or anything like that.

In 1929 was won by the beautiful Miss Austria, Lisl Goldarbeiter (pictured).

In 1930, 30 women from various countries and some states of the USA, met to crown the new Miss Universe, Miss USA was won, with Miss Russia as a finalist (Top Ten in the photo), who did not represent, obviously, the Soviet Union, but the "White Russian" exiles in other countries Europe.

And in 1932, the beautiful Kerim Halis Ece (pictured) becomes the first Miss Turkey in the history of Muslim-majority country, and stands with the crown after international since become a familiar figure at home and abroad.

In 2006, Hungary (Hungaria for some), we performed a popular documentary about the first Miss Universe, the Austrian Lisl Goldarbeiter, which can be found on the Internet, and even then of the contest continued his success from 1926 until 1935, when the contest was held in Brussels, resulting Winning Miss Charlotte Wassef Egypt, the violent winds of the Second World War and blowing, extinguishing the flame of universal beauty temporarily.

And and in 1952 continued the legacy of Galveston, in other hands but with the same purpose, to enhance the feminine beauty and torment us with this terrible habit of the competitions, all those we love and continue around the world.
