Ford's Supermodel search came to a dramatic conclusion with a Grand Finale held at Rootz on the rooftop of Lot 10 Saturday night (05.12.2009), where Kelly Jagan and Danny Lim were chosen as the winners.

Kelly and Danny beat out 20 other aspiring male and female models to come out tops in Amber Chia’s inaugural reality TV project. The 22 contestants were mentored by Amber herself in the 10-episode series, as each of them were put to the test, competing in photo assignments and catwalk challenges. Amber was also the lead judge for the reality programme.

With the win, Kelly will be representing Malaysia in the International finals of Ford Models’ Supermodel of the World, to be held January 14, 2010. As for Danny, he will be sent for a modeling stint with a world class modeling agency in the United States. Both winners will also draw from a total prize pool worth over RM500,000 in endorsement contracts, fabulous gifts from sponsors and modeling opportunities in fashion spreads and magazine covers.

Kelly, a 20 year-old model from Kuala Lumpur, has been working in the industry since she was 16. "It's like a dream (to have won)," Jagan said after the announcement. Kelly has already begun to plan her strategy for taking on contenders in Ford's International competition, next year."I plan to (exude) confidence, show good personality and I'll make sure I'm fully prepared before I fly off to Brazil."

Danny, a 20 year-old Graphic Design student at Lim Kok Wing University, hails from Penang. He plans to graduate next year while continuing his career in modelling. He nonchalantly mentioned that the competition had been "clashing with his studies." "I had to rush my assignments and then rush off for (photo) shoots as well." He added though that he was happy to have won.

Commenting on the competition, judge and photographer Azrul Kevin Abdullah stated, "What we've done with this contest is to apply fairly stringent requirements for the contestants for height, build, their ability to pose and how they photograph. I think our judging was based purely on industry requirements and we weren't willing to (compromise) on that. It's not about (finding) a winner that we like, it's about (finding) a winner which we know can work that catwalk."

Amber will continue to mentor Kelly and Danny, signing both models to her Amber Creations agency. "I have to work hard to make her (Kelly) the next supermodel. And we can look forward to the International finals in Brazil. Good luck to Malaysia. Malaysia boleh!"

After a much-publicised off-screen spat with the producer that almost saw the cancellation of the show, the reality series was taken online. The series premiere will air on Star World (Astro channel 711) Dec 12th at 6pm. The rest of the season will be made available through www.fordsupermodel.tv. On Dec 19th, at 6pm, Star World will air the show's finale.

As for the possibility of a season 2, we got the scoop from Malaysia's reigning top model herself. "Of course," Amber stated emphatically, "I promise next year we'll do it even bigger and better. I'm really convinced that next year we'll have an even better show."
